Since 1907, The Bright Star restaurant has been serving generations of customers its specialty Greek- style snapper and steak, signature seafood gumbo, luncheon specials, and famous pies. Located in Bessemer, Alabama, the restaurant has a regional following and draws patrons from throughout the Southeast as well as nearby Birmingham. The Bright Star’s exceptional longevity results from one family’s continued commitment to excellent food and service. Family patriarchs Bill and Pete Koikos emigrated from Greece in 1923 and two years later purchased an ownership interest in the restaurant from founder Tom Bonduris. Since 1966, Bill’s two sons, Jim and Nick Koikos have owned and operated the business.

Our server was great! We sat in the Nick Saban booth and we were very please with our experience. We were torn between the peanut butter pie and the baklava... so we ordered the baklava and our sweet server felt that we still needed to try the peanut butter and brought us a complementary piece. *so sweet of him* 5 star experience for sure.

Delicious food and awesome pie! My kids loved both the Greek steak and the chicken breast. The gumbo is shellfish free and you can taste that they built layers of flavor into it forever. The table bread is flavorful. The lemon pie is wonderful, creamy and delicious! I love that they serve wine.

I love the Bright Star. They have great food and service, I was a little disappointed in the steak but everything else was excellent, the Portuguese rolls are addictive and when I go to Bessemer I have to go just for those.
